Julius Hicks was an imposing 6-8 force in the middle for West Valley from 1997 to 1999. Playing for Hall of Fame coach Bob Burton, Hicks led the Vikings to a 54-12 record in his two seasons playing in Saratoga. He earned All-State and All-America recognition at WVC and continued his career at the University of Oregon, where he was team captain as a senior. Jumping ahead to 2020, Hicks is now the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations at California State University, Northridge.
Hicks joined the Matador staff in 2019 after six years as the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Administration at UC Irvine. He began his coaching and athletic administration career at West Valley in 2004 as an assistant coach under current Viking head coach Danny Yoshikawa, helping lead WVC to the CCCAA Final Eight both seasons. Hicks was the Director of Basketball Operations at Stanford for the 2006-2007 season and then spent the 2008-2009 campaign as an assistant coach at Pepperdine under Vance Walberg.
He was reunited with Burton as an assistant coach and later the associate head coach at CSU Fullerton from 2008-2013 before taking the jobs at UC Irvine and at CSUN. A graduate of St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco, Hicks resides in Orange County and has three daughters, Jamie, Corri and Rylie.
