Gavilan rallied from a 34-29 halftime deficit to pull out a 77-68 win over the West Valley men's basketball team Friday night in Saratoga. The Vikings (10-8, 1-1 Coast) got a season-high 39 points from Devante Johnson, but it wasn't enough to stop the state's #5 team. The Rams (15-1, 1-0) got into foul trouble in the first half trying to stop Johnson, who canned 22 points before the break, but used their superior front-line height to take control of the boards in the second half. Xander Bowers grabbed 29 rebounds for Gavilan, while Ibn Zaid had 20 points and 12 boards. West Valley heads to Hartnell (9-6, 1-0) Jan. 12 for a 7:00pm tilt against the Panthers.
