Vikings Cap Stellar Season with Fourth Place NorCal Finish

The undefeated 2018 Coast Conference champions

The West Valley women's water polo team fell to American River College 6-3 Sunday morning in the 3rd place game of the 2018 CCCAA NorCal Championships in Saratoga. The Vikings, who finished the year 23-8, opened the tournament Friday with a 13-5 win over Diablo Valley in an opening-round battle of Vikings. Saturday's semifinal battle with San Joaquin Delta saw WVC trail 10-9 with four minutes left, but the Mustangs would connect on three goals late to pull away 13-9. Sabrina Esteves led the Vikings with a pair of goals Sunday and had a game-high seven goals against the Mustangs, six in the second half. Under coach Erika Vargas, West Valley finished the regular season with its second straight undefeated Coast Conference championship and a top-ten state ranking, both firsts for the program.
