Bobby Hill has led the West Valley College baseball program for three seasons, overseeing the most successful stretch in the history of the program. During his tenure, the Vikings qualified for the CCCAA State Championship Tournament twice, captured back-to-back Coast South Conference titles in 2024 and 2025, and achieved high-level success on the state stage with a third-place finish in 2024 and a runner-up finish in 2025. Over the course of these three years, Hill has compiled a 111-42-1 record, maintaining a .724 winning percentage.
A two-time Coast South Conference Coach of the Year, Hill previously earned the honor in 2024 at West Valley and in 2023 during his nine-season tenure at Mission College. While at Mission, he amassed a 178-120-3 overall record, including a 93-50 mark in the Coast Conference. Under his leadership, the Saints secured three conference titles and four playoff appearances, highlighted by three trips to the Super Regionals. Hill began his coaching career at Los Gatos High School, where he immediately made an impact by leading the Wildcats to a pair of Central Coast Section (CCS) championships starting in 2012.
Hill’s baseball background is exceptionally extensive, marked by both a distinguished professional playing career and significant national coaching experience. A two-time USA Baseball alum, Hill competed for the 1998 Collegiate National Team and the 2006 Olympic Qualifier team, where he led the squad with a scorching .522 batting average in Havana, Cuba. Continuing his commitment to the sport at the national level, Hill serves as a manager for USA Baseball’s development programs, leading Team Light Blue at the 2026 16U/17U National Team Development Program (NTDP) following his debut as a manager at the 2025 Athlete Development Program (ADP).
Before his transition into coaching, Hill was one of the most decorated players in University of Miami history. A first-team All-American and later an inductee into the school's Hall of Fame, he was a pivotal leader of the 1999 NCAA national championship team. He remains the Hurricanes’ career stolen base leader (139) and ranks in the top ten in several other categories, including runs scored (240), hits (253), and walks (166). Throughout his collegiate career, he maintained a .360 batting average and achieved the extraordinary feat of reaching base in 97 consecutive games.
Following his collegiate career, Hill was selected in the second round of the 2000 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs and was named the organization’s "Prospect of the Year" before making his major league debut in 2002. Over a seven-year professional career, he spent five seasons at the major league level with the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates. His professional journey also included time with the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres organizations, providing him with a wealth of experience that he now brings to the West Valley dugout.
