Former Viking Elijah Mahi signs Summer League deal with Oklahoma City Thunder

SARATOGA, Calif. — Elijah Mahi, a standout forward who powered the West Valley College men's basketball program to historic heights from 2022 to 2024, has signed a summer league contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Mahi's leap to the professional ranks follows two highly productive seasons with the Santa Clara Broncos of the NCAA's West Coast Conference (WCC). During his senior campaign at Santa Clara, Mahi solidified his status as one of the conference's elite talents, earning All-Conference and All-District honors.

Before his time with the Broncos, Mahi was the cornerstone of a dominant era for the West Valley Vikings. During the 2023-24 season, he led the Vikings to an undefeated 33-0 campaign, culminating in a CCCAA State Championship title. His historic sophomore year was highlighted by California Player of the Year honors and an MVP performance at the CCCAA State Tournament.

Throughout that championship season, Mahi averaged 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. A model of consistency, he scored in double figures in all but three contests—reaching a season high of 26 points—while maintaining remarkable efficiency: 54.2 percent from the floor, 47.1 percent from behind the arc, and 73 percent from the free-throw line.

Mahi's collegiate journey began with a standout freshman campaign in 2022-23. He was one of only five freshmen named to the CCCAA All-State Team and swept major conference awards, including Coast Freshman of the Year, Coast-South Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Coast honors. He concluded his debut season averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game on 50.8 percent shooting.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Mahi has also made his mark on the international stage. In the summer of 2023, he represented the Canadian U23 Men's National Team at the GLOBL JAM tournament in Toronto. He averaged 11.7 points and 5.0 rebounds, helping propel Canada to the tournament championship game. Mahi played his high school basketball at Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mahi's professional journey kicks off this July, when he will join the Thunder organization for an intensive stretch of action. He is set to compete in both the Salt Lake City Summer League from July 3–7 and the NBA 2K Summer League in Las Vegas, running from July 9–19.
