Strong doubles showing leads to first victory of the season

SARATOGA -- West Valley tennis picked up its first victory of the season in the Vikings' penultimate match of the season, getting revenge on a Cañada team it had lost to exactly a week ago on the road. The Vikings (1-12, 1-6 Coast) took care of business against the Colts (1-5, 1-5 Coast) after a strong showing in the lone doubles' pairing, winning in 6-0 fashion.

 

The day opened with one doubles pair, as the Vikings Pranjal Goyal and Kailyn Santiago took the spotlight against the Colts. The two put on a show, taking the match with an 8-4 score.

 

West Valley took the first singles competition, with May Pham sweeping her opponent 6-0 in the first and 6-1 in the second.

 

The No. 1's singles match with Santiago went in her favor in the opening set, taking it 6-2 before she matched with the same score in the second for the match victory.

 

Goyal took down her opponent in the first set, 6-2, and though there second set was more of a fight, Goyal came out on top with a 6-4 final.

 

West Valley finishes its regular season against Mission on the road next Tuesday, with first serve set for 2:00 PM.
