Former West Valley Viking Vicky Piatt (formerly Vicky Galindo) is one of the most recognizable and respected coaches in collegiate softball. Her elite background features a legendary collegiate career at Cal, professional success in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league, and representing her country on the USA Softball National Team at the Olympic Games.

Since taking over the program at West Valley College, Coach Piatt has established the Vikings as a consistent regional powerhouse. Her teams have posted an incredible 121-43 record since 2022, securing a 74 percent winning percentage and qualifying for the 3C2A Super Regionals in two of those seasons. Most recently, in 2025, Piatt guided the program to its most successful campaign under her leadership, registering an outstanding 38-6 overall record, an 11-3 finish in the Coast Conference, a Coast Championship, and a postseason run that took them to the Super Regional as the No. 2 seed. Following the 2025 campaign, she was named the West Valley Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Before her successful coaching tenure, Piatt compiled a world-class playing career on the international stage. As a member of the USA Softball National Team, she represented the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, where she won a silver medal. She also helped guide the national team to a gold medal at the 2006 World Championships and won additional gold medals at the 2007 Pan American Games and consecutive World Cups from 2006 to 2008.

At the collegiate level, Piatt led the Cal Golden Bears to three consecutive Women's College World Series appearances, including back-to-back national runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2004. Her stellar performance earned her an induction into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015, alongside honors as a two-time NFCA First-Team All-American, a three-time All-Pac-10 selection, and a Player of the Year candidate. Professionally, she played for the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch league, earning three consecutive All-Star selections from 2005 to 2007 before having her jersey retired by the franchise in 2014. Piatt played for the Vikings in 2002, leading the the team to a CCCAA State Championship and earning All-American honors before transferring to Cal.
